Petition text
WHEREAS Centennial Academy, founded in 1969, is much more than a school, as it is a refuge and a springboard for hundreds of young people who, thanks to its unique approach, succeed where others have failed;
WHEREAS the Academy supports students with learning difficulties by offering them the opportunity to complete high school in five years through innovative methods;
WHEREAS the Academy opened a French-language sector to meet growing demand, which now represents 50% of the student body, and has never received official recognition, placing unsustainable financial pressure on the institution;
WHEREAS the funding needed to support the French sector has not yet been granted, thereby putting at risk not only the Academy’s continued existence, but also the future of our young people and their families;
WHEREAS if the Academy were to close its doors, 300 students and parents would be left behind, abandoned;
WHEREAS, for these young people, Centennial often represents the last chance to succeed and move forward, and, if the Academy were to close its doors, they would see their dreams and ambitions destroyed;
We, the undersigned, ask the Government of Québec to prevent the closure of this school, which makes a meaningful difference in the lives of children with learning difficulties and other conditions such as ADHD, autism or dyslexia, and to ensure that the majority of these students are not left without a school to continue their regular educational path simply because of the complexity of their challenges.
