WHEREAS the current official policy of the Québec government is to ensure that seniors can live safely in the community as long as possible;
WHEREAS the service employment paycheque is available and indispensable to a variety of vulnerable populations (seniors, parents of children who have disabilities) and their primary caregivers;
WHEREAS the service employment paycheque is a cost-effective alternative to institutional care for taxpayers (for example, an emergency room hospitalization can cost about $1,500 per patient per day, and this cost is passed on to every taxpayer);
We, the undersigned, ask the Government of Québec to:
- ensure that all institutions under Santé Québec process new requests for service employment paycheque hours;
- ensure that all institutions under Santé Québec maintain service employment paycheque hours for home care services.
